Arsenal at Summer Transfer Window 2011 -2012 Review | Arsenal January Window 2012 Targets

•September 27, 2011 • 13 Comments

2011-2012 summer transfer window is by far the busiest transfer window Arsenal have ever had, in total 5 players had left and 8 players joined Arsenal. Even though the number of players coming in is higher, the quality of the players Arsenal lost is huge.Arsenal had the best midfield last season with the likes of Cesc, Nasri, Wilshere, Walcott and Song playing along but they had problems in other areas and eventually had a disappointing campaign.

Arsenal fans are used with star player departures like Marc Overmars, Emmanuel Petit, Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry, Mathieu Flamini, William Gallas, Jose Antonio Reyes, Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Adebayor and etc. But never it had happened that two big star players left in the same window. Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri both very young and high quality midfielders and their departure will be a very big loss to the club. We can understand the Nasri situation who has only 12 months remaining in his contract and Arsenal are forced to sell him for something instead of nothing but Cesc situation could have been handled differently, Wenger could have held on his most priced possession, arguably the best midfield player in the league like what Spurs did with Luca Modric. It’s known that Cesc wants to return to Barca and his performance wasn’t at his best because of distractions but he is still a hell lot of a player, he yet again finished the season topping the assist list. Thats where Wenger missed on the title, it’s really tough to win anything with a world-class playmaker for an attacking team like Arsenal. But the arsenal fans has all the reasons to cheer up, they got the two of the best young midfielers in Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere, especially Jack what a season he had last term, hopefully he steps up in the absence of Cesc as Cesc did when Henry departed. It’s the same old story for the same old Arsenal.

Mirel Arteta, Yossi Benayoun, Park Chu-Young, Per Mertesacker and Andre Santos on the final two days of transfer window is called pressing the panic button, even though they all are quality players they need the time to set in with the team, thats where Wenger’s decision is again questionable, he could have brought them earlier on and looked at the Cesc and Nasri’s situations.

Arsenal still need two top quality midfielders, one for the Attacking role and another for defensive role. Overall creativity of Arsenal had come down with the loss Cesc and Nasri, no more Arsenal can associate them self with 6-nil victories, they need an attacking midfield to complement the deep-lying playmakers Arteta and Wilshere, so someone like Adel Taarabt or Marvin Martin who are not Champions League cup tied will fit the bill. Another area of concern is defensive midfielder, Alex Song is quality versatile player but never a defensive midfielder he has too much of attacking instinct for the profile, Arsenal need someone to protect the back four and win the ball like Makelele. Both Song and Diaby can never be Mekelele, they both have the attacking instinct, so again Yann M’Vila who is not Champion’s League Cup tied will fit the bill. With this two players coming in will complete the Arsenal squad and make them competitive for the Silver wares, if not we would see the like of RVP and Walcott departing next season.

Gervinho sings for Arsenal | Gervinho Arsenal | Gervinho transfer to Arsenal

Gervinho Arsenal

Gervinho Arsenal

At last Arsenal have snatched up their first major signing for the 2011 2012 season, signing Gervinho from Lille for £10.6 million pounds. Not sure if all the fellow gooners will welcome the move who still look out for a very big name signing who guarantee 30+ goals a season, but he is a hell lot of player than you imagine. He is lightning quick, a natural finisher with both his legs and is the fox in the box Arsene Wenger had been looking out over the years.

Gervinho, the hair braided 24 year old Ivorian following the footsteps of Eboue and Yaya Toure joined the Belgian side Beveren to get the taste of the European football and quickly established himself as first team regular. His performances were widely regarded and Arsene Wenger had his sights at him at that time but nothing materialized though and he moved to French League 1 side Le Mans. He quickly adapted to French league and he impressed one and all with his performances. Again he was scouted by Arsenal and when asked about it Gervinho on 2008 said “I will do everything to play for Arsenal”. Thats the driving force that enabled him to even bigger heights in the coming seasons and eventually transferring to Lille. Its where he became an accomplished player and went on to establish him as one of the top players of the French league with 13 goals and 4 assists in the first season and the best player of the league statistically next season with 18 goals and 10 assists which propelled Lille to do the double of League and domestic cup and Lille wining the league after 57 years. Check the Wiki for his stats, quite impressive!

He is already an established and elite player in his league, so Arsenal fans should welcome Arsene Wenger’s intentions who always prefers the ones who are not there yet. More over he has tremendous ball control and eye for goal every time which fits him in central role apart from playing in either of the winds, so what happens with Arsenal starting line up with his transfer is he can push Nasri back to the cental role along side Fabregas, Wilshere and Song and competition of places between Arshavin, Walcott, Ryo and himself for the wings which is very good for the injury prone Arsenal side.

Coming to adapting to English conditions, off pitch he would feel like home with the french influence of Arsenal and he looks a strong lad with a immense upper body strength so he could fit into the hard tackling style of premier league. The only problem is premier league is not good for swift players there are some daemons on the pitch who can destroy your career, just remember what happened to Eduardo, Walcott and Ramsey.

End of the day its a a steal to get a player of Gervinho’s caliber at £10 million provided he settles to the English football and recreates his magic all over again and break the club’s junk and to be a pivotal part in the pursuit of glory in their proudest 125th year.

Cesc Fabregas Interview 2011 | Gervinho to Arsenal | Gary Cahill and Christopher Samba to Arsenal | Scott Dann to Arsenal | Sebastian Larsson to Arsenal

Fabregas pleads loyalty

Fabregas pleads in

Cesc Fabregas come out and showed the world his Arsenal heart during an Interview held upon his promotion of a fragrance product in Madrid. He made is clear that he is “very happy at Arsenal”, he said

I have been very happy for eight years and I am very happy

reflects that his heart is still at Arsenal. He went on to say

After eight years, after everything I have worked for and have felt at this club, I’m not going to do away with everything for one word.

I’m not going to spoil everything after all this club has given me. My way of working has always been with discretion

These word shows his loyalty and commitment to Arsenal, who without him are Engine-less car. But all this doesn’t mean that he put the full stop for the move to Barcelona or any other club,

You can never say never in this life as so many things happen that you can never predict.

If one day I leave Arsenal, today, tomorrow, in five years or never, I’ll say so the day it happens, never before. I won’t lack respect for the club that has given me so much.

but he stressed that he wont hand the transfer request to Arsenal and that decision his held by the boss Arsene Wenger who always insisted that Arsenal is build around their captain Fab, the end of the story of  “Fabregas to Barcelona 2011”.

There are some mixed reaction to this development, The Sun recorded 155 comments to their post with many Gunners questioning Fabregas’s loyalty and commitment to Arsenal’s cause last season, all I want to say that one so called bad season should hide that he has done for the club he is the most important player post Henry era and more over he is our captain and turning back against him is so uncalled for, “Be a gunner, never a quitter!”.

Transfers to Arsenal:

Gervinho to Arsenal

Gervinho to Arsenal has reported the a €12 million is agreed between Arsenal and Lille for the transfer of the Gervinho to Arsenal, a welcomeable move from Arsene Wenger to go for an Arsenal fan who in 2008 stated that

I will do everthing to play for Arsenal.

adding to the 24 year old’s stats at Lille, 1st season 32 league games, 13 goals and 4 assists and 2nd season even more impressive in his 35 games, 15 goals and 10 assists which helped Lille to snatch the French League 1 championship after 57 years with him being the main reason behind the success scoring some of the match deciding goals.

Again revealed the stunning £24 million double swoop for Gary Cahill and Christofer Samba, not sure if it will materialize but sure the any one of them will be at Arsenal next season. Another central defender who has been linked to Arsenal is the 24 year old Scott Dann according to the Telegraph , but its even more difficult to land the 6.2 footer to The Emirates stadium as they face tough competition from Liverpool who are his favorite club.

Sebastian Larsson to Arsenal

Sebastian Larsson to Arsenal

Another interesting rumor linking ex-gunner Sebastian Larsson to Arsenal, the bosman is reported by The Sun for a shock return to this boyhood club who can prove a valuable addition as a squad player if Rosicky and Denilson leaves. His additional defensive play and set piece ability are widely regarded.

Transfer out of Arsenal:

Still no developments on players out are running through, but it’s expected that Rosicky, Squillaci, Denilson, Almunia, Bendtner and Eboue are transfer listed.

Transfers rumors – Fabregas And Nasri wants out | Ryo Miyaichi into Arsenal line up | Samba or Cahill to Arsenal | Benzema or Higuain or Falcao to Arsenal

•June 10, 2011 • 6 Comments

Every Arsenal fan would have anticipated an active summer for Arsenal and Arsene Wenger, but the thing that is evident so far is they are very active in all the sports tabloids and football pages. Arsenal, Wenger and Arsenal players are all over the places and the rumors suggest complete over-hauling of Arsenal squad with all the stars leaving and Arsenal bidding for all English and French league players.

Fabregas Arsenal No 4 | Fabregas to barcelona

Fabregas Arsenal No 4 | Fabregas to barcelona

Cesc Fabregas wants out to Barcelona, again it has come up, with the latest rumors coming up with Wenger giving green signal for his Captain and playmaker to Barca this summer, read it here. Dont know how for its true but sure that Fabregas is a guy with footballing brains, he would be knowing the lack of starts and competition for central midfield place and moreover he wouldn’t be playmaker at Barca. Unless any of Xavi or Iniesta moving or retiring there is no spine to the rumors and he will continue to be NO.4 on Arsenal Jersey and NO.1 in our hearts.

samir nasri and wenger | Nasri manu

samir nasri and wenger | Nasri manu

Samir Nasri, the another star who is rumored to be wanting out, with only 12 months left in his contract, he has been rumored to be heading to gunners fierce rival Manchester United. MANU are short in the department of creative players. had an interesting article on this, read here. There is a lot of base to the article, Nasri more than deserves to be in £110,000 a week if Rooney and Tevez are earning £200,000 a week but Arsene Wenger’s financial policies are such that even Fabregas earns only £110,000 a week, thats why Arsenal posting huge profits over the seasons and this year around £57 million, where as Man u, Man city, Chelsea post record losses. It has been stated that 68% of all premier league club earnings are showered towards player wages. To counter this whole scenario Arsenal need to get rid of players like Almunia, Squillaci, Eboue, Denilson, Bendtner, Rosicky and promote Talented youngsters like Ryo Miyaichi, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Emmanuel Frimpong, Henri Lansbury, Ignasi Miquel etc who are not in huge pay packs  and make the extra wages available for contact extensions and new players.

Continuing to the promotion of young players, the one who should be in the Arsenal line up or probably in started 11 is Ryo Miyaichi, he is a rare talent, he is swift, tall and a natural left footed winger. His dribbling and Ronaldo like skills tore apart all the defenders in Netherlands and there is every chance for him to continue this good work in the Premier League, he just needs some shaping to be done to his raw talent and hope he gets the work permit. Just look back what he has done at Feyenoord….

Even though there are some exciting young talents in the squad, Arsenal need some experienced players. They surely require a center back and 20+ goal scoring center forward. Christopher Samba with his height and strength will fill in the missing link of the Arsenal but it would be difficult to get him after Blackburn having sold fellow center back but Gary Cahill even being comparatively not that tall and strong will be suited with the Gunners style of play has a £17 million release cause in his contact is most likely to join gunners. In the attack they need a prolific scorer like Karim Benzema, Gonzalo Higuain or even Radamel Falcao who guarantee 20+ goal every season but will Wenger shell out £25 million to get any one of them will be remaining to be seen.

Arsenal Defenders Transfer Targets | Arsenal Tactics 2011-2012 | Arsenal Formation 2011/2012 | Arsenal Squad 2011 2012

•June 3, 2011 • 10 Comments

In the recently unfolded “disappointing season” for Arsenal, in which they  had coincided 43 goals in their 38 premier league matches of which 23 are through set pieces, this had been identified by the Professor Arsene Wenger as the area to improve. He admits this is due to the fact that the average height of his squad is the lowest in the League and he is in the market for a “Tall” Defender.

With the likes of Wilshere, Arshavin, Nasri, Fabregas, Sagna, Clichy, Walcott in the squad, Arsenal have some of the shorter to the average height players of the Premier League and thats the reason why they desperately need some tall defensive players who would take the set pieces head on.

Thats where someone like Christopher Samba(193 Cms) or Brede Hangeland(194 cms) will fill the void. Any of those towering defenders will complement Johan Djourou (192 cms), Abou Diaby (188 cms), Laurent Koscielny (185 cms), Alex Song (184 cms) and Thomas Vermaelen (183 cms) already in the squad. Samba has been linked to Arsenal quite a lot these days not only because of the failed bid in January transfer window but also the height he offers along with strength, he would cost gunners around 8-10 million pounds, if else they should do for Hangeland another towering defender but he is relatively not that strong, he would also be available around 10 million.

With either of Samba or Hangeland transferring in and any of Benzema or Higuain flying in, the possible Arsenal formation of 2011-2012 would be….

Arsenal Formation 2011-2012 | Arsenal 4 3 3 Formation

Arsenal Formation 2011-2012 | Arsenal 4 3 3 Formation

Even though, 4-3-3 formation of Arsenal has received criticisms across some football pundits, they should continue with it, because Fabregas and Wilshere would be the best playing in the center of the park and may be Song should be given a deeper role.

Apart from goals through set pieces the other area where Arsenal concede is Counter attack, this is because of the fact they have the attack minded full backs, Sanga and Clichy and another major problem with Arsenal last season was their failure to hold on to the leads, thats why they should change their tactics and sub out Clichy, Sagna and Wilshere after taking the leads and sub in Djourou (CD or DM), Koscielny(CD or DR) and Diaby(DM) who offers the height to clear out set-pieces. Vermaelan and Koscielny can be used in left and right flanks to sub out Clichy and Sagna. Arsenal players have come under great amount of criticism for their intention to pass every time without going for the shot and here is again the Arsenal tactics should be changed and Fabregas, Nasri and Walcott should be given the free role to shoot when ever the opportunities arises.

Arsenal had played huge chunk of matches last season since they were in the League Cup till the Finals, FA cup till the Semis and Champions League till the Last 16 and the players were drained both physically and mentally because of which the key players got injured and lacked the freshness to play a 100% committed game during the later part of the season, So Wenger should rotate his players adequately, rest the key players during cup matches and while playing against easy opponent and give Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Lansbury, Ryo Miyaichi, Kyle Bartley, Ignasi Miquel, Emmanuel Frimpong and Conor Henderson starts and bench regular first team players so that they can come in in-case of emergency.

Have your say below…

Arsene Wenger Angry

Arsene Wenger Angry

After a “disappointing” season as termed by Arsene Wenger himself, he assured that he would spend and do everything he can to hold on key players which means that he and his scouting team is in for a couple of hectic months that could bring the missing thing to the current Arsenal squad and restore the pride of Arsenal football club who are celebrating their 125th year in the history.

Arsenal had the ideal squad in the season that has just unfolded minus one top class Goal Keeper, which was evident during initial period, where that played the best attacking football and Almunia doing his best to nullifying it with his usual blunders. In the middle part of the season with the emergence Lukasz Fabianski and Wojciech Szczesny and with the injury to Thomas Vermaelen  and awful show by Sebastien Squillaci make the squad look missing a top class defender with the Goal keeping position looked ok, and again Arsenal played the best eye-catching football which was nullified by school boy defending. Post the Christmas season they looked to be the ideal squad, with Szczesny, Djourou and Robin Van Persie excelling. They played the best football in their own brand which all end in one night in one mix up in the Carling Cup final and they could never come back from it.

This shows that drastic changes are not required to revamp the squad, arsenal just need some players who are fit to wear the Arsenal Jersey and get rid of the players who dont. Here are some of the possible transfers in respective positions.

Goal Keeper –

In – Nil

Out – Manuel Almunia

Szczesny is a huge talent, he is the present No.1 Arsenal goal keeper and he will be for years to come. He has the perfect height and technique to be regarded as a top class goal keeper and with likes of Fanianski in the Squad, Goal keeping position looks very stable for Arsenal after a very long time. Jens Lehmann as player cum coach will be icing on the cake.

Defense –

In – Gary Cahill and Arsenal reserve products Kyle Bartley and Ignasi Miquel

Out – Sebastien Squillaci and Kieran Gibbs(Out on Loan)

Gunners need a solid and consistent defender

who tackle without fear

nullify the high crosses clear

lead the defense line dear

week in and week out and that is Gary Cahill for you. He is all Arsenal need he would fit into the line up perfectly partnering our Verminator and with Koscielny and Djourou in the squad it would make the best defense in the premiership. Couple of reserve players are ready for first team namely Kyle Bartley, who on loan at Rangers was a huge hit in Scotland and the Spaniard Miquel had already made couple of appearances in this season, both are the ones for the future. Squillaci is the one who should be out of the team, he is very fragile and slow to be playing in premier league. Gibbs is a quality player all he needs is match experience, he should be loaned out. Rumors of Clichy wanting out is outrageous, he is the only remaining premier league medal winner and he is the best defender for Arsenal with 90 tackles won and many interceptions made. He is other player who Wenger should do everything to make him stay.

Midfield –

In – Scott Parker, Eden Hazard and Arsenal reserve products Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Henri Lansbury and Emmanuel Frimpong

Out – Abou Diaby, Tomas Rosicky and Denilson

Arsneal has the best midfield in the world second to the great Barca so there is not much changes required except for the squad lack a natural left foot winger, thats where Eden Hazard fills in perfectly, who gives the midfield more versatility and creativity. Arsenal midfield lacks an strong, experienced leader and motivator on and off the pitch thats where Scott Parker comes in, the relegated West Ham captain single-handedly fought for his club’s survival before getting himself injured is an experienced leader who Arsenal dearly want. The Arsenal academy has produced the best midfield players over the years in England and this year we can expect Emmanuel-Thomas, Lansbury and Frimpong getting their due. Transfer rumors of Arsenal wanting to sell Arshavin is rubbish, he is a match winner, this year he scored 10 goal and assisting 17 times, is that Arsenal dont want next season? Samir Nasri has been the revelation of the season and with 12 months left on his contract we can expect that he is linked to various team but Wenger should do everything to make him stay. Arsenal should get rid of Diaby, Rosicky and Denilson they are not fit to wear the Arsenal jersey and what about the news of Denilson is sick of Arsenal not winning silverware for 6 years, well Arsenal didn’t win any because they have a short, fragile and coward Midfielder in the center like Denilson.

Forward –

In – Karim Benzema

Out – Nicklas Bendtner

Arsenal midfield creates lots and lots of chances every game in and game out, but they lack a natural finisher, we have seen lots and lots of shots sailing wide and over the bar over the past seasons, thats why Arsenal need Benzema, he is a natural finisher and also a selfish player, that is what the Arsenal strikers miss. Wenger should get rid of Bendtner, his finishing is awful to say the least and yet he blames Wenger for not giving opportunities.

Bottom line – Wenger needs to spend during this summer transfer market, otherwise we wont see any improvement to the “disappointing season”.

Fabregas Transfer news

Fabregas Transfer news

Cesc Fabregas transfer to Barcelona FC has been the news that Arsenal fans hate to hear every season. This transfer has been running over past few years now, we have heard that Barca has submitted the bid for the player last two seasons but Arsenal have declined the same and I’m sure that it will be the same this year also. Even though he wants to return to this home land desperately and play for this favorite club under his role model Pep Guardiola and with Arsenal not winning anything with him except for the FA cup they won on 2004-2005, simply because he hates being in the bench.

Just imagine a team winning the league three times in a row and partnership between the trio Xavi, Iniesta and Messi have been widely praised, who would want to change the winning combination or the winning partnership? Moreover Barcelona have the most coveted playmaker in their ranks, Xavi and its for sure that Fabregas wont get to play the playmaker role, which every playmaker hates.

Over the years, Fabregas even being regular for the Spanish national squad, he is mostly an impact player who predominantly used as a substitute player with some rare starts, because of the influence of Xavi. Both are very similar players, both play in the middle and like the whole game flowing from their boot. Thats the reason even the player with the stature of Fabregas is not involved in regular first team action in nation colors and thats what he can expect from transfer to Barcelona since he would not only striped of captaincy but also playmaker role and moreover he would be asked to be played in the wider role.

Jack Wilshere the PFA Young player of the year | Jack Wilshere – the ball wining playmaker of Arsenal

Jack Wilshere the PFA Young player of the year

Jack Wilshere the PFA Young player of the year

Jack Wilshere – He creates he passes he tackles and he tweets is the 19-year-old teenager of Arsenal who recently won the PFA Young player of the year. 2010 has been the break-through for the Wilshere as he started to taste premier league football at Bolton as a loanee then he got the opportunity at the heart of Arsenal midfield with Fabregas injured which he garbed it with both the hands. He impressed every one with his matured and solid performances, for me I started liking the way how he wins possession and way he tackles and create chances.

His first start for Arsenal came in the away game against Liverpool in the 1st league game of the season from there on no stopping for Wilshere he has gone on to play 44 matches with 2 goals and 9 assists to his name with numerous ball winning tackles and chances created. The one performance that will stay ever green in my mind is his performance against Barcelona when every one in the field where losing the possession and getting booked while trying to gain possession, Wilshire stood still and won the ball on numerous occasions against the like Xavi, Iniesta, Messi and co. His performances were that impressive that Pep Guardiola hinted that Barcelona don’t need Fabregas but would want Wilshere. It has been a long time to see an English talent in Arsenal ranks but with the like of Walcott and Wilshere the legacy is still alive.

In the modern-day football the teams would require one or more playmakers, since there would be one in the opposition already marking the playmaker, like Nigel De Jong always marking Fabregas, So with the likes of Wilshere in the side we have some one else in the team to create chances as well as doing the ball winning acts. Thats why he has been the difference between the Arsenal 09-10 and Arsenal 10-11. I hope to see Wilshere stay at Arsenal for life and develop as club and county Captain.

Arsenal Transfers 2011-2012 | Arsenal Summer Transfers 2011-2012

Eventhough the season in any means over yet with gunners still having the chance to end their 6 year jinx I’m still writing this because it cant take it any more seeing the club I love, worship and trust end up being in this position that even being the best club in the league yet in the second place in the league table and loosing out in rest of the competitions.

Arsenal need experience and mover over the guys with wining mentality or the guys know how to win. Just look at Manchester United they dont have the best squad in the business yet they are winning simply because they have guys who have been there before and won multiple trophies in contrast Arsenal have only one player Clichy who has the premiership medal.

Gunners clearly needs players in 3 fields, Goal Keeping, defense and Striking department. With all the take over cloud surrounding Arsenal, Arsene Wenger will be assured with a hefty transfer sum, but as we all know Arsene wont be involved in big-money signings and more over what is the difference between Arsenal and other clubs if they do so, Arsenal FC is always a place to unearth gems or a place where a good player transforms to a top-class player. And they dont have to do so this season, Gianluigi Buffon is out of contract this season so is Alessandro Nesta, both quality experienced players and most importantly winners. Buffon and Nesta are the kind of guys gunners need to propel there young talents with the likes of Wojciech Szczesny and Johan Djourou excelling this season. And another player I would want see in donning the Arsenal jersey is a top class finisher. Arsenal have the best midfield which is second only to Barcelona and they create at least 10 chances a game and yet they end not scoring even a single goal due to care less or under pressure finishing. I would like to see Karim Benzema or Klaas-Jan Huntelaar as a string partner to Van Persie, both top class finishers and good in the air as well just what Arsenal desperately need.

Arsenal_transfers_2011-2012 | Buffon | Huntelaar | Nesta | Benzema

Arsenal_transfers_2011-2012 | Buffon | Huntelaar | Nesta | Benzema

With inclusion of this three players would obvious mean some players needs to get snubbed. So the players I mind not seeing feature in Arsenal squad are Manuel Almunia, Tomas Rosicky, Denilson, Sebastien Squillaci and Nicklas Bendtner. I’m not saying they are not fit to were the Gunners jersey or they dont have the quality but they dont have the most importantly thing that is what required, winning mentality.

I’m sure that with the Inclusion Buffon, Nesta and either Benzema or Huntelaar, Arsenal would be in a better position to win anything and break their jinks and keep up the history and tradition of Arsenal FC live and lastly get back the smile in the faces of fans like me.
